Danforth for President   3 comments

Today all the Rotary clubs in Springfield plus the Rotaract Club held our joint city-wide meeting.  The idea each year is to bring in a high-profile speaker and this year did not disappoint since it was former Senator and U.N. Ambassador John Danforth.  He’s a native of Missouri, an ordained Episcopal priest, author and all-round rational thinking Republican (oops, I guess that was a redundant phrase!)

He made a few remarks and then opened the podium to take questions and the field was wide open – everything from stem cell research to terrorism to the Iraq war.  One speaker prefaced his question with “Senator, you are…………(long pause – left me in suspense)……..so mature!”  Amen!  His thinking was so rational and his replies well-thought and it was clear he can see both sides of a subject and yet remain true to his own beliefs.  Burl attended with me and commented that it’s too bad he’s not running for president because he could sure vote for him.  I concur!  At least I’ve had the opportunity to vote for him in the past – both for Attorney General of Missouri and as our U.S. Senator.

  1. Well, it’s not an oxymoron these days…. unfortunately!

  2. With all the mudslinging going on during this election, I’m about to move to Canada! I’m so fed up with the Democrats I just might have to…gasp…vote Republican. Nah, I don’t think I’m that desperate!

Sounds like there’s a reason Danforth isn’t running for president. He’s too smart for that crap.

  3. I’d go with you but it gets too cold in Canada!
