First Thursday of the month can only mean one thing for me – time to have dinner with good buddies Robin and Vickie. Tonight was supposed to be Hickok’s but given that we are women and prone to changes of mind, we ended up at J. Buck’s which was perfect – good semi-diet food with great friends and best of all, the place was really quiet so we had plenty of time to have a leisurely meal and then sit and visit without being rushed.
My blog has now become the posting place for that part of our conversations that can be made public so now I even take notes. Here’s the “stuff we can talk about” from tonight:
-
Is the term “butt naked” or “buck naked”? We voted 3-0 for “buck naked.”
-
We decided our spending habits are based on what we learned from our parents – for 2 of us that means following their frugal ways. For the other, it means being frugal because her parents weren’t! Go figure. But all decided we love to clip coupons and get $ off at the grocery store – a habit that will probably escalate throughout our society in coming years if we truly are in a recession. Good or bad, we inherited these habits from our parents.
-
We love bargains and rarely buy anything that’s not on sale – and if it’s at Macy’s we have to have the 15% off coupons from the paper. But every once in a while we just have to give into paying full price for a special item – like the skirt Vickie bought at Talbot’s. Her purchase was validated when they sold out of that style in less than a week. Good call Vickie!
-
If hubby gives you diamonds for your anniversary, is it okay to get a coupon for a dishwasher at the lake house for your birthday? In this case, yes it was – clearly Robin hates doing the dishes at the lake!
-
Why does one suddenly start snoring when they’ve never had that habit before? And what’s the cure? Losing weight? Stopping a medication? Different sleeping position?
-
You know you’re a cool mom when your 14 y/o daughter tells you she is so spoiled because she got a straightening iron for her birthday and you straightened her hair! Tomorrow night this young lady will entertain 7 other teen-age girls with a slumber party and in lieu of gifts, they have been asked to bring socks for a church mission project. This mom is definitely raising a daughter with the right values.
-
A new job for a spouse = new spouse!
-
Why do we spend so much time in our lives judging ourselves by our trappings – especially at work? The corner office and executive assistant may seem neat at the time but trading that in for a challenging job where everyone has the same perks and teamwork is emphasized can make you realize what’s really important in a career.
-
Doesn’t matter what our friends tell us – when we feel fat, we are FAT! But fie on anyone who calls us Fatty Patty to our face!
Lest you think we only tackled serious topics, never fear. We dissed a few people, caught up on some bits of gossip and made plans for a slumber party of our own. And I came home with something to post on my blog!
