Email, Schmemail…   Leave a comment

It had to happen – once we decided to get rid of our cable TV and go to a Dish, the next step was to say good-by to cable internet and switch to DSL.  AT&T made it happen early last week but today was the first chance I had to devote the time to make it happen on our end.  Now I know the sales guy at AT&T said it would “only take 15 minutes” but he probably didn’t realize that I didn’t fall off the boat yesterday and clearly didn’t buy that line!  4 hours, 15 minutes and still counting is more like it.

Another of his famous lines was “we can easily transfer over your entire address book and bookmarks” which they did for Burl – but 20 minutes with Tech Support gave me the real story – that only happens on the main account and not the sub-accounts.  I fumed and finally accepted that I’d have to do it all by hand when lo and behold, the fairy godmother of email let all of mine transfer over too.  What the heck does Tech Support know anyway?

It’s still not the way I want it but I can’t finalize everything in Outlook until we make the final break w/cable internet which is still a week or 2 away – just to make sure everyone gets the address changed correctly.  Fortunately it rained almost all afternoon which kept Mulligan and me inside and I have that sense of accomplishment that this job which has hung over my head all week is behind me.  Now I can read for the rest of the evening.  Best of all, by sending out a blast email that my address had changed I’ve already heard from several friends so for that I count my blessings.
