I feel your pain! When we remodeled our kitchen last year, one of the "musts" for Dave was a small tv above the fridge in the kitchen. It didn't matter that we were knocking a wall out and making the kitchen/living room into one big area, and that there was a 46" flat screen less than 12 feet away-- HAD to have the tv in the kitchen!!

We have Dish too, and I can do without the 500 channels, but I LOVE the DVR; for the few programs I watch, it is awesome to tape and watch them anytime. Enjoy! :)

You may not like much tv, but I don't think you can consider yourself a semi-Luddite. Not with all the time you spend on your "Crackberry" and computer!

Enjoy your viewing! I'll stick to TiVoing all my fave shows so I can skip the commercials. I don't need 5 million channels to confuse me.
