Dear hubby has so many wonderful traits but he also has one “vice” – the TV! He absolutely loves to channel surf and no Sunday afternoon is complete without a glance at the PGA. As a semi-Luddite I realized I’d have to make some changes when we married – after all, I had one old set in the basement that I drug up when Blair visited and wanted to watch a Univ. of Iowa sporting event. But marriage to Burl included taking possession of 7 TV sets!
We’ve “endured” Mediacom cable TV for many years but finally made the switch to Dish network – by bundling the internet, land line, cell phone and TV we were able to save several hundred $ a year and lock in a rate so we’re not at the constant whims of Mediacom and their ubiquitous rate increases.
Yesterday was the BIG DAY – we got our Dish! Fortunately I was at work (I realize I may have to stay home and wait on this kind of stuff when I venture over to Life 2.0 – bummer!) because they said they would arrive “between 8 and noon”. Burl had a 10:30 tee time and was certain he could make that – NOT! Two installers showed up at 10 and after pulling in a couple of reserve installers, finally left at 6:30 last evening. But we now have Dish on 4 TVs (den, downstairs, back deck, bedroom) along with new remote controls and Burl got to spend the evening scrolling through all the nifty features that Dish provides along with about 5 million channels while I read a book.
Anyone want to buy an old TIVO with a lifetime paid subscription?
You may not like much tv, but I don’t think you can consider yourself a semi-Luddite. Not with all the time you spend on your “Crackberry” and computer!
Enjoy your viewing! I’ll stick to TiVoing all my fave shows so I can skip the commercials. I don’t need 5 million channels to confuse me.

I bet Mr. Kerner would take you up on that Tivo offer!

I feel your pain! When we remodeled our kitchen last year, one of the “musts” for Dave was a small tv above the fridge in the kitchen. It didn’t matter that we were knocking a wall out and making the kitchen/living room into one big area, and that there was a 46″ flat screen less than 12 feet away– HAD to have the tv in the kitchen!!
We have Dish too, and I can do without the 500 channels, but I LOVE the DVR; for the few programs I watch, it is awesome to tape and watch them anytime. Enjoy!
