And The Oscar Goes To…   Leave a comment

Oscar night in Springfield had more glitz and glamour than prior years thanks to us being named one of 50+ “official” Oscar sites.  A friend had an extra ticket to the black-tie affair at the Gillioz Theatre and asked me to join her for the event.  We did a bit of mixing and mingling, had a drink and some appetizers and then watched the TV presentation on the movie screen – which reminded me of how much I enjoyed attending that theatre back in the days when it was one of the main movie theatres in Springfield.  The Gillioz epitomizes art deco and was always a great date venue on college weekend nights.

Although we didn’t stay for the entire evening we still enjoyed critiquing the gowns and hair styles (Tilda Swinton won hands down for worst look of the evening – frumpy dress, no make-up and so-so hair) but I was glad to see lots of red gowns replacing the normal black choices.  Marion Cotillard and Tilda Swinton were definitely surprise winners and I was thrilled that the Coen Brothers each got more than just a set of book ends with their Oscar wins.

Now let’s hope that Hollywood turns out a better selection for next year – I saw 4 out of the 5 that were up for Best Picture (and agree with the winner) but still thought the field was a little weak this year.  Just my professional opinion, of course!!!
