According to daughter Tammy (who appreciates trivial, yet important information like I do) the one thing you should never get in a restaurant is a lemon slice in your drink. Why? Because a study showed dangerous microbial growth on 70% of lemon slices served with beverages in restaurants. Of course she shared this with me while we were having dinner together last night, immediately after she told me she didn’t want the lemon in her drink and I stole it for mine! Ugh! We agreed that thus far we don’t think a lemon slice has made us sick but one can’t be too careful. Much as I like lemon in my water, tea or even beer when I’m out, I will now forego that bit of zip in favor of infection control.
On a related note – the first time I assisted in serving communion at our church, I held the cup of wine for the people to dip their bread before partaking of the bread and wine. I was amazed at how many people dipped their fingers into the wine too – so now I always opt for the individual cup of wine rather than the communal cup.
In addition to getting a health tip from Tammy last evening I also got to enjoy her company for dinner and a bit of shopping. I have scaled back wardrobe additions over the last year or two in preparation for my permanent sabbatical from the work world but when I’m with Tammy, all restraint is lost! She has the wonderful ability to look at a rack of clothes packed tightly together and glean the perfect items which she then holds up and says “this would look great on you, Mom” – so I scored 2 jackets, a trench coat and a sweater all at 75% off and all with Tammy’s Fashion Police seal of approval.
I also got to meet her friend Miriam whom I recognized as a fellow blogger through the blogspot of a mutual friend. I’m wondering who in the world I could link with if there was a “6 degrees of separation” for bloggers. Hmmmmmmm??? Reading Miriam’s blog I’m reminded why young people have babies – especially twins! But they are so adorable!
Sorry about grossing you out with the lemon info, but I had to pass it along. Glad to be of service with the shopping. At least someone got a bargain last night, although I do think I’ll keep the tuxedo blazer even if it was only 50% off.
Btw, the Dillard’s in Rogers, AR didn’t have your red trench. While it was a nice mall, the Dillard’s was much smaller than ours.
Tammy doesn’t do fashion consultations and shopping consulting for others does she?
I received an email about the lemons earlier this week, as well. Yuck!! Thinking back to my restaurant days in college, I can see how this could be a haven for bacteria. The lemon container wasn’t something that was emptied/sanitized daily, but rather just stuck in the walk-in each night and refilled the next day. Who would’ve thought about this, though? Of course now we ALL will… no more lemon slices for me either!
And yes, I always enjoy Tammy’s fashion tips on her blog.. you’re lucky to have her as your own personal shopper. Love her new boots!
Mary, yes I’m available for hire. I’m nice, but firm so be prepared for some constructive criticism! I promise I’m not mean.
Thank you Tammy! As long as you aren’t mean – I believe I can accept your constructive criticism
I will call you soon.
