The January issue of Oprah magazine lists The Top 25 Items That Just Gotta Go unless you want to look frumpy. I’ll admit I turned to the article with a bit of fear and trepidation because even though I gave birth to the Chief of the Fashion Police, I have been known to hold on to old favorites long after they are in style and I figured I was about to get arrested.
I breathed a big sigh of relief when I realized most of them are no longer in my closet (if they ever were) – I’ve said good-by to holiday sweaters with appliques, overalls, shoulder pads and flannel shirts. I never even considered muumuus, photo handbags, elastic-waist pants or granny necklaces that tell how many grandchildren I have (I have 8 in case you’re interested!) However, I am subject to being given a warning ticket for still having the following:
-
souvenir t-shirts -what else do you wear to the gym?
-
penny loafers – they’ve been worn once in the last 6 years but when I needed them for a 50′s party I was glad I had them
-
flesh-colored hose – not worn often but unfortunately I work in an office where it doesn’t matter how tanned, shaved and shapely my legs are in the summer, I still have to wear hose – but not for long!!!
-
thin gold chain necklaces – I wear my monogram on a thin gold chain all the time – and usually with another necklace that’s more prominent
-
baggy sweats – only at home
5 items out of 25 – that’s 20% infraction but hopefully when I’m put in front of the jury, they will let me off with a warning! However, I will pay close attention to Oprah, Tammy and Talbot’s to guide my wardrobe selections. One thing’s for sure – I’ll be buying less and the clothes will be more fun!
