This evening I had the fun of meeting friends Robin and Vickie for a Girls Night Out dinner at Metropolitan Grill. Vickie organized this event and I chimed in with a suggestion to avoid the chain restaurants – and as always, Metro Grill did not disappoint! Second best to the fabulous company was the flash-fried spinach – yum, yum!
Robin and Vickie are dear friends I’ve gotten to know through Leadership Springfield and even though they are much younger, they never make me feel old. I admire them both so much and especially appreciate their viewpoints. Tonight did not disappoint as we discussed a variety of topics. In case you’re interested, here are our unequivocally opinionated comments:
-
Too many people don’t recognize the value of thank-you notes – we decided it’s not so much an age thing or gender thing but probably a product of how someone was raised. But we each had instances when our opinion of someone was altered in a small way by a thank you note we received – or the lack thereof.
-
Americans are more overweight than most other countries – as evidenced by comments Robin heard recently from a couple of foreign exchange students who were surprised to meet some Americans who weren’t obese (including Robin).
-
Young people need to learn how to dress properly – there’s too much skin and cleavage being shown plus no matter how much you spend on clothes, if the jeans are torn, the message you send is negative to us old farts.
-
Much as we love our husbands, a monthly night out with the girls is awesome!
-
Seeing on old boyfriend who is overweight with gray hair when you look fabulous yourself is one of the best ego-boosters around. Especially when he tells you that you haven’t changed a bit since high school.
-
I’m not the only person who buys expensive boots and then carries them around in the trunk of her car for a week trying to decide if I want to keep them or not. Vickie kept hers – mine went back to Dillard’s yesterday!
-
The older we get, the harder it is to learn something new – especially when we’re being taught by someone almost a generation younger than we are.
-
Metro Grill has a fabulous new bidet in the women’s restroom.
-
We are all leading sheltered lives since we couldn’t come up with any good local gossip.
-
When you get together with couples and you’re the only female without kids, you tend to spend the evening talking to the guys.
-
The photos on the gift cards at Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch border on pornographic.
What did you learn today?
I learned that a universal remote does not, in fact, allow you to control the universe. What a disappointment.
