The little girls are bedded down for the evening following books, songs, hugs and kisses – and a few tears from Lydia who tells us with her body language that she is NOT tired although we know she is! Ralph and Blair have gone to meet her best friend Claire and her hubby Doug for a wild night on the town – since both couples have 2 kids under the age of 5 their 2007 version of a “wild night” consists of going to the Mud House for a latte and a bit of conversation that’s not interrupted by the preschool set.
In anticipation of their leaving in the morning, Ralph and Blair blitzed the house and have already started packing the SUV – their plan is to feed the kids breakfast and then hit the road early. My plan is to eat a very light breakfast and hit the gym for a great workout before I go to Rotary. I have 6 days until I must darken the door of my office and item #1 on that list after lunch tomorrow is to take down the fire-hazard tree and get the ornaments packed away. The rest of the decorations will stay up until Monday since we’re hosting a party for newlywed friends on Sunday evening. But in the meantime I can get the den furniture back to normal and straighten up the house sufficiently for the housekeeper to tackle it on Friday – while I am once again at the gym.
Lest you think this going to the gym is a trend, you are correct – my habits of the last month have been very lax in the exercise area and I feel it both mentally and physically so I’ll get in there now and start working out before the 6-week surge occurs at the gym next week thanks to New Year’s resolutions. Then by mid-February all that will be left in gym attendance will be the hard-core members. No more cookies, chips or heavy meals – however, I’m NOT giving up the Diet Coke (yet – but I’m thinking about it thanks to Tammy’s great example) or the occasional beer or glass of wine. A girl must have her priorities!
