Tonight we played hosts for our Goldwing motorcycle club Christmas party. For the last 2 years we have been the chapter directors but as of tonight we are officially DONE! We have vowed that as we rid ourselves of obligations, no more will be allowed to take their place as we attempt to find more time to spend with family and for travel. For me it was the 2nd volunteer job to go by the wayside this week – I also ended my 3-year term on the Staff/Parish committee at church so that frees up one evening a month at a minimum.
Before we can truly get out of the volunteer responsibility business Burl needs to do his stint as director of his Shrine unit next year plus serving on a major church committee and I have a big Rotary job as well as the Girl Scouts bidding for my time. BUT – the good news is that we are shedding some commitments and thinking long and hard before we say “yes” to additional endeavors. With luck, by time my retirement comes we’ll be ready to hit the open road on the motorcycle – so look out world!
PS – we played a Christmas trivia game tonight at our party and our team won - one of the questions was to name all of Santa’s reindeer which I could do thanks to Tammy’s response yesterday to the Christmas quiz I emailed to her. Thanks Tammy!
