O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree

The local scuttlebutt about the Christmas tree at Missouri State University has now made it to the Drudge Report so if you’re not familiar with the issue, check it our under the title “Christmas Tree at Missouri State University…Back Up”.  Seems that a faculty member of another religious persuasion complained about the tree which had purposely been decorated with non-religious items (but has been deemed by the courts to be secular).  When he was given the opportunity to put up a menorah (which is also secular) he declined.  Guess he’d rather complain than take advantage of an attempt at fairness.

Some days it makes me wonder if we are really the Buckle of the Bible Belt or just the Center of Stupidity!  Fortunately Missouri Governor Matt Blunt stated  “Today, I issued a directive to state agencies that no state employee will be reprimanded, cautioned or disciplined for saying ‘Merry Christmas’ to others. I strongly recommend that MSU as well as all other taxpayer supported institutions adopt my policy.”  Now I guess we need to sit back and wait for some attorneys to bring a class-action suit on behalf of every non-Christian or those who will claim to be if they smell a lawsuit settlement.

This incident is one that makes me long for the “good old days” – whatever they really were!

  1. I’m sorry, but this issue isn’t about religion or lawsuits….it’s about ignorance and a lack of purpose in life.

The best thing we can do with this type of information is send a “good wish of good will” to this “faculty member” and get on with the positive and productive things in our lives and make THESE our own personal “good old days”!

Sidebar;) I’m a class action lawsuit advocate when it relates directly to consumer protection, but NOT when it involves “religious preference”.!
