Mob Scene   1 comment

The only mob we faced today was not at the mall midst all the super-shoppers but at the movies where we saw “American Gangster”.  Ever since I read “Honor Thy Father” by Gay Talese many years ago I’ve been fascinated with organized crime – I saw “The Godfather” (and the sequels) and it’s definitely in my list of Top 10 movies of all times.  “AG” was based on the true story of Frank Lucas, a black drug dealer played by Denzel Washington and also starred Russell Crowe as the honest cop (nope, that’s not an oxymoron) who brought him down – with a great twist at the end.  It was set in the late 60′s and early 70′s and I loved the clothing and sets – it’s hard to think back to when we didn’t all carry cell phones or have computer access at our fingertips so it was definitely a walk down memory lane (without the GPS!)   If you can tolerate R-rated language and plenty of violence don’t miss this one.

We’re celebrating the Arkansas win over LSU tonight and hoping that tomorrow night will also have us cheering after the big MU-KU game.  Starts at 7 in Kansas City – or catch it on ABC.

  1. We went to see American Gangster on Thanksgiving also (5:45pm). Actually saw several folks we knew. I also liked the movie and have watched all the Godfather movies.
