Burl left the house early this morning to drive the Seniors from church on an excursion to Independence and a tour of the Truman Presidential Library. I teased him about his “groupies” since a couple of the older ladies stopped him at church on Sunday to make sure he was driving the group today! He had some time to kill after lunch before their tour so he shopped around the town square. Imagine my surprise when he called me from a local yarn shop to see if there was anything I wanted him to buy for me. Now he knows even less about knitting than I know about golf but I was quite impressed that he thought about buying something for me. Unfortunately I couldn’t think of anything I wanted – of course I didn’t utter the phrase “there’s nothing I need” lest he think I should curtail my yarn and needle shopping! He’s home safe and sound tonight and managed to fight off the charms of his fan club.
We just talked to Len and got an update on the fires – they are closest to the Witch Creek fire but it appears they are out of danger. Len and Alex are still in Anaheim but Stacey ventured home today so she can work tomorrow – their home escaped any harm although those just a couple of exits away on the highway were casualities of the blazes. They seem to think the firefighters are getting things under control so we’re being guardedly optimistic about our trip on Friday. Burl is bumming because when they called Torre Pines for a tee time, they are all booked up for Monday and Tuesday – apparently the only way to secure a tee time is to book way in advance and pay a hefty surcharge with no refund in the event of cancellation – but they took their chances and lost. Hopefully this isn’t our last trip to San Diego so there’s always another chance.
That’s the yarn shop where I got my yarn for the dark purple hem of my Ice Storm Sweater and the handdyed green yarn for my Central Park Hoodie. It’s a good place!
