The sound of rain on the skylight this morning did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm for the day – even though I knew I had to work a full 5 days this week and I haven’t done that for a few weeks! But – my calendar listed lunch with good pal Vickie and that’s always a treat. Today she took me to Zio’s where we shared the Chicken Club pizza and each had a salad – but the best part of lunch was just getting to visit with her. We talked about our families, hubbies, kids, grandkids (just me – she’s WAY too young for grandkids), college, jobs, Rotary - a full gamut of topics. She is an amazing young woman – very talented and so capable and I left lunch feeling so good about life. I’m so blessed with friends.
This evening grandson Corey played another outstanding football game – he’s getting in a lot of game time on defense and got his name mentioned over the PA system several times this evening for his talent in tackling. His freshman team at Nixa High School is undefeated and we are very proud of him. He and his mom joined us for a bite to eat after the game and the first words he uttered were “thanks so much for coming to my game.” At 15 he’s showing signs of growing up and dinner was quite fun – he was talkative and entertaining and when we parted he hugged us both and thanked us again for being at the game and for dinner. I know his mom is proud of his behavior as well she should be.
Now it’s time for me to buckle down and polish up a speech I have to give tomorrow night – it’s written but just needs more rehearsal and some last-minute tweaking. Hopefully I can knock off that last-minute thing tonight and not tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. in the middle of the social hour for the event!
