We are home! Arrived Sunday afternoon around 3:30 and Mulligan was just as excited to see us as we were to see him. We left Prairie du Chien, WI on Saturday morning saying good-by to the NoTell Motel and headed south via all the little county roads that allowed us to catch snippets of the Mississippi River. At Dubuque, Iowa we crossed the river and the bluffs of the river area turned to dusty cornfields.
We stopped briefly in Dyersville to see the “Field of Dreams” location – since there was no admission we can truthfully say we got our money’s worth! Been there, done that – back on the motorcycle heading to Des Moines. While the guys watched never-ending sports (Iowa football, Cubs baseball, Mizzou football), Ralph and I took the girls for a walk and then ordered pizza to go with the Totally Naked beer which got great reviews from all of us. Julia and Lydia were quite entertaining and it was really tough to tell them good-by yesterday morning knowing we may not see them again until Christmas.
We almost made it home without having to haul out the rain gear but between Harrisonville and Clinton we finally had to pull off under an overpass and put on the gore-tex – which of course insured that the rain stopped quickly! Arrived home, got the trailer unloaded and I started the first load of laundry so Mulligan and I could then go take a long walk.
Today has been a wonderful last day of vacation for me - I purposefully set the alarm for my usual time so I could get up and enjoy coffee on the deck – then headed off for Sam’s (sure do like having a business membership so I can get in there early), stopped at the library and then went to the gym for a nice long workout which I seriously needed. Next was the chore I’d been dreading – grocery shopping! Especially when you consider we were out of just about everything – but I escaped for under $100 and came out to a downpour which literally dampened our plans for an afternoon of bike riding on the Frisco Highline trail. So – after a late lunch we decided to catch up on Desperate Housewives via Tivo – sure do like condensing 2 episodes to about 80 minutes!
The rain has now stopped so we will soon head out to grandson Corey’s football game. But first I still have laundry to fold……….and perhaps I need to find some fall clothing to replace the more summery things in my main closet. Tomorrow it’s back to work!
Glad you’re home safe and sound. Sounds like you had a great trip.
Have enjoyed reading about your trip as it happened, and all the adventures (and misadventures- although nothing too bad, for an “fly by the seat of your pants” unplanned trip!) Sounds like it was very relaxing.. now its back to work!!
