Ahhhh…Vacation!   2 comments

Greetings from the ‘burbs of Chicago.  After a long (560+ miles)trip yesterday with plenty of stops to keep the motorcycle full of gas and us fed and hydrated we arrived at Ed and Agnes’ around 5:45 – naturally we had plenty of road work delays around Chicago, even on the tollway.  As I recall when Ralph lived here, that’s par for the course!  We stayed in last night – took a long walk around their neighborhood, illuminated by a full moon and then watched some of Burl’s old home movies that Ed is tranferring to DVD for us.  This particular one was Mike’s graduation from Mizzou in 1994 and then a party at Burl and Paula’s home in Columbia – and since it was also Mother’s Day they had a dual celebration.  For Burl and Ed it was neat to see their mother in the clips.  We voted Stacey the one who had changed the least – damn her!

The guys just left for their 8:00 tee time and Agnes and I plan to take a morning walk and then hit the little boutiques in Long Grove, have lunch and make a run for TJ Maxx.  Tomorrow we’re takng the train into the city and have reservations to do a cruise around the city that centers on the historic architecture of Chicago.  Of course we also plan to walk the Miracle Mile of Michigan Avenue and may dine at an Indian restaurant since Ed and Agnes are planning a trip to India, Nepal and Dubai next winter.

Best part of vacation so far – SLEEP!  Just being away from work must be the trick – can’t remember when I fell asleep to quickly and slept so soundly but with the budget put to bed I can now follow suit!  And for those of you who are wondering if/how I turn off my Type A personality while traveling, well I don’t completely but I do turn it down a few notches.  There is hope for me yet!!!  Yesterday I only read about 3/4 of a book instead of thinking I had to finish one on the first day – I even was content to ride along and just enjoy the scenery and talk with Burl.

Now I think I’ll pour another cup of coffee and read a “real” newspaper – the Chicago Tribune.  Our local attempt at being a paper could take some tips from this publication.

  1. Glad you arrived safely in Chicago. I’m jealous you’re shopping in the Windy City. Have fun!

You mean the “Snooze-Leader” isn’t a real paper?! Does that mean Sarah Overstreet isn’t a real writer?!

  2. Not much shopping today but had lots of fun – tomorrow is downtown Chicago – your shopping Mecca.

NO – absolutely NO to your 2 questions!!!
