Yesterday was the Go Red for Women luncheon to benefit the American Heart Association. The event featured an auction of handbags filled with goodies called “Purse-enalities” and I was asked to donate a bag. I knitted/felted a red wool bag and filled it with some of my favorite things – gift certificates to Talbots and Borders, a bottle of red wine, golf gift certificate, book light, earrings made by daughter Tammy, Girl Scout cookies – and liked it so much I almost bid on it myself. While I didn’t have the high bid on a bag, my friend Heidi bought my bag and I was so pleased she got it because not only is she a long-time friend but since I made the bag myself I wanted it to go to a good home.
Heidi and I were cohorts in biking crime many years ago and even though we haven’t biked together for many years it seems we can pick up right where we left off and still laugh (and cuss) in sync. I talked with her today and found out we both love to knit so we plan to start getting together at least once a month to knit – and I predict our knitting session will also include at least one bottle of wine!
Here’s to healthy hearts and more importantly to long-time friends who may exit our lives temporarily but are never gone forever. Wish me luck this weekend – it’s the MS Bike Ride and I’ll be riding 165+ miles in 2 days. Stay tuned for results…….
What I want to know is how many of the goodies in your bags were “re-gifted” from other auctions you’ve attended! Oh wait, I forgot you can’t remember your bidding number so you haven’t won any items lately!
It was a good luncheon even if the program lasted too long and the MC sucked. I really liked your bag. Heidi called me to tell me she loved the earrings which was a really sweet gesture.
