Family Time   Leave a comment

We’ve had family under roof at our house for over a week and surprisingly I haven’t had the urge to run away from home.  Those who know me quite well (hi Tammy) know I’m an introvert masquerading as an extrovert when necessary but I really value my quiet time.  However with people going in all different directions for most of the week, having company hasn’t been confining and I’ve had a great time.  Len and Alex left today and Stacey is here until Tuesday so tomorrow night Stacey and I get to have dinner with Tammy and Steve which will be a real treat.

Last evening we took Cindy, Brian, their 4 kids and Alex to the Shrine Family Circus.  The event was held at the headquarters for the George Cardin International Circus which is just north of Springfield – a fact that had alluded me until yesterday.  The kids loved the pony and elephant rides but the biggest hit was free and unlimited cotton candy, sno cones and popcorn.  Despite the excessive heat we had a really fun time and it was good to spend time with the grandkids – even our 2 teen-agers didn’t act too bored being with the parents and grandparents!

This morning our grandson Corey, who is 15, was baptised at Parkcrest Baptist Church so we attended en masse taking up one whole pew.  The service was very nice and we were proud of his decision which he made earlier this summer at church camp. Following church we had lunch at our house and also celebrated Cindy’s birthday which will be on Thursday.  The kids hung out in the pool all afternoon but I opted to stay inside and read and knit – I was in the pool yesterday and it really felt like bath water temp.  I can stand the heat but if I can avoid it at 102.3 I will!

Stacey and Cindy are at a movie tonight and we’re enjoying a quiet evening with Mulligan – we even put him in the truck and took him with us when we went out for one of our favorite summer-time dinners – concretes at Andy’s!  Peaches and cream for Burl, key lime pie for me – may not be nutritious but they sure were delicious!  It’s been a fun weekend and since I also got in a long bike ride yesterday morning, it borders on perfection – biking time, family time, pool time, knitting and reading time – what more can a girl want?
