First Weekend of Summer

The first official weekend of summer didn’t disappoint since I got to relax, bike, eat out, play with our granddaughter and veg in the pool!  Saturday morning I jumped out of bed at 6:00 for a group bike ride that started at 7:00 – it was a training ride for the MS150 and I knew from the map it wasn’t going to be flat.  Still, being the glutton for punishment that I am, and wanting to get in as many miles as possible, I chose the longest route.  It was rumored to be 50 miles but my odometer logged 54.3.  To say it was hilly would be an understatement – the route included ”the 3 queens” in honor of 3 very hilly sections.  I’ve never met a hill I couldn’t walk and one of those puppies saw me on foot instead of pedaling.  It was one of the hardest rides I’ve ever done – and I think I was more wiped out than when I’ve done 100 miles in a day – but I did it!  Yeah for me!

I came home, hopped in the shower to refresh my tired bod and then played with granddaughter Bella who stayed with us yesterday and today so her parents could celebrate their wedding anniversary alone.  She is an absolute delight and so fun and easy to take care of.  While she napped, I lounged in the floatie in the pool – then she and I played in the water together.  I can’t say I was too far behind her in the bedtime department last night after all the sun, heat and exercise.

Today after church we hung out at the pool again until her parents arrived to take her home.  I got in one of my rare domestic moods and cooked Burl a great dinner – then walked the dog, came home and pulled weeds (I job I love because I can get instant gratification of seeing what I’ve accomplished) and now I’m ready for some reading and/or knitting.  Tomorrow it’s back to the grind at work and it will be a long week since I’ll probably end up working all day Saturday – ’tis the budget season.

Happy Birthday today to granddaughter Julia who is 4 and Happy Anniversary to son Mike and wife Annie who are celebrating #7.  We talked to them tonight and got the due date for our next grandchild – December 22nd.  Looks like they won’t be here for the holidays!

May you have a wonderful week filled with moments of joy and gratitude.
