Today’s comic strip of “Blondie” made reference to the Springfield Cardinals. Since our AA team is called the Springfield Cardinals (a farm team of the 2006 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals) I thought it was really neat – and considered it just a coincidence. Then today at Rotary I discovered that the franchise-holder for the Dagwood’s Restaurants that are coming to town actually met Dean Young (who draws “Blondie”) at a franchise meeting. With a little help from a VP with the Springfield Cards, he convinced Young to use our team name to celebrate National Baseball Day – aka 1st day of summer. Pretty cool, huh? And the Springfield Cardinals won tonight too – way to go Cards!
