Summer = reading to my way of thinking – must be a throwback from when I was a kid and I spent every spare minute either riding my bike, swimming or sitting on the front porch and reading. I’d ride my bike to the Callaway County Library, fill the basket on the front of my trusty 2-wheeler with books and head for home – read vociferously and repeat the process. Now I log in, put books on reserve and via email I know when they are ready – or when they are due!
I was most excited to get Baldacci’s new treat “Simple Genius” and I really tried to like it – even got 75% of it read and then just decided that last 100 pages wasn’t worth my time or effort. Some of the character names bugged me, I found I really didn’t care what the outcome was and decided he’d leave the two main characters as “just friends” for now since he’ll probably feature them in a later novel. This may be a new record for ditching a book mid-read but my time’s too important. Now I’m starting “The Friday Night Knitting Club” which has my interest after 30 pages – but it’s also making me want to knit. So many choices, so little time!
Cindy took Burl to see “Oceans 13″ on Father’s Day and he gave it a big SNORE – in fact he said he almost fell asleep so that snore could have been literal. I loved the original “Oceans 11″, enjoyed the remake, hated “12″ and have no desire to see “13″ – I’m waiting for something decent to show up on screen to make me want to give up my time and $ to see it. Any suggestions?
Tonight we rode our bikes to Strafford and ate at a truck stop that also had a Subway – yippee! Low point food! Saturday is a training ride – I’m debating between the 38 and 50 mile options – guess I’ll see how hilly it is when it’s time to make that decision.
Time to read…….or knit………..whatever!
See Waitress w/Keri Russell – delightful little off-beat comedy with excellent writing. It’s the only thing I’ve seen this year that I can remember, other than a German film that is likely not out anymore (or never was out in Springfield – don’t know what the art film scene is). I am personally waiting to see La Vie en Rose, opening this weekend, but doubt I can swing it that quickly … hope it’s good.
Greetings from Gatlinburg! I’m slowly making my way through The Liar’s Club, which I’m sure you’ve read. I just manage to get about a chaper a night if I’m not too tired, but I am enjoying it. It’s nice to know some families are more dysfunctional than ours!
Cindy – thanks for the tip on Waitress – it’s actually playing here now. I’ll try to see it while it’s playing or put it on my “to rent” DVD list for later.
