Yesterday was a day of Movin’ On for son Mike – the whole family was at the Maricopa County Events Center to cheer him on as wife Annie hooded him as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. He has worked long and hard to reach this goal and we’re so proud of him – but being the humble person he is, he soon tired of smiling for photos and was ready to trade his cap and gown for something more comfy and has also told us to stop with the “Doctor” salutation!
We headed to his favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch – it’s a family-owned place near their house that serves fabulous margaritas and authentic Mexican food for a pittance. Then we all got into our “workuns” and spent the afternoon moving Len and Stacey’s stuff from their storage pod to their new Arizona home . Most of their furnishings are at the rental home in San Diego where they plan to be for about 18 months but in the meantime they have the essentials here for when they’re back – beds, TV, some couches, plus fully stocked kitchen and laundry appliances! It’s a gorgeous new home with a fabulous “great room” in the upstairs level with lots of possibilities plus a huge backyard that begs for Len to design the sports area, the cooking and grilling area and the pool and spa area. We plan to make good use of it when the snow flies at home!
This morning I hear it’s raining at home which of course makes it even more fun to be in the land of sunshine! Cindy and I took a long power walk about 7:30 and it was already in the mid 80′s. Mike is out biking and Burl and Len are at the new home waiting for the blinds to be installed so the girls are having chick time – we have a graduation party for Mike to attend at noon but in the meantime we figure we’ll get ready and head over to Dillard’s to check out the sales. I love it that we all think alike!!!
Tomorrow it’s back to reality but for now I’m going to enjoy this mini-vacation. Congrats to Ralph and Blair who ran a 20K this morning in Des Moines – I haven’t yet heard their results but I’m sure they did great.
