Ticked Off   4 comments

The rites of passage for summertime hit yesterday – the pool is open and our new water fountain is spouting forth in the middle of the pool and lends an air of sophistication previously unknown to our backyard.  I worked around the house and yard for several hours yesterday and then rewarded myself by hauling out the floatie and doing my inaugural float/read/drink Diet Coke venture for 2007.

After I showered I did a thorough tick check since Mulligan had already had a big fat tick removed from his back (despite our intense flea and tick precautions with him) – finding none I thought I was home free until I later discovered one nestled in one of my outer ear folds.  That little fellow has now been flushed away to the great sewer in the ground.  He was either lost on my bod or pretty dumb because my ears are about the only part of me that don’t provide any excess for tick-nibbling.

It’s Memorial Day weekend and we’ve already had our share of rain – will today provide more of the same or will my Trek come off the bike rack in the garage and get out to play?  Stay tuned…………

  1. Let’s play! This is the first year I am getting ‘serious’ about my riding. Any words of wisdom you would like to share with me?

  2. Yeah for you on the riding. What kind of bike do you have – mountain, hybrid or road? I know Touring Cyclist has bike groups that ride together so you might start there hook up with some other riders and go on some fun rides and then graduate to longer rides – they will probably have some good routes to share with you too. I haven’t been out yet this year but hope to change that this weekend. However….we just got back from Lowe’s with a truckload of pretties that need to be planted!!!

  3. Ewww! Ticks! Despite having attended summer camp for several years and done my share of camping at Roaring River and Bennett Springs, I don’t recall ever having had a tick on me. For some reason, they completely gross me out. I think I would freak if I found one. Now, mosquitoes, on the other hand, just love me. I battle them all summer.

Can’t wait to see the pool fountain. Sounds cool.

  4. I’ve only had a few and since I found this one early it really wasn’t too bad – think I’ve only had one that started dining on me and had to practically be ripped off. They are more annoying than anything.

Yes, the fountain is tres cool – especially at night when all the lights are off except for the pool light. Planted some more flowers too so the place is shaping up.
