Friday night was “Take me out to the ballgame” night for us – or more appropriately “Cox buys out St. John’s……..for a night at the ballpark!” In late January, a group of 8 of us bid high to win a night at the Springfield Cardinals in the St. John’s suite – the “deal” included game tickets for 18, hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, soft drinks and more importantly, the opportunity to throw out the first pitch. Our COO is a huge baseball fan so the honor went to him and he shared the mound with his 4 y/o son who put quite the spin on the ball.
Two hours before game time we were experiencing a big downpour but by time the national anthem blared forth, the skies were clear and it was a perfect night for a game – the Cardinals won 8-5 and we saw an awesome fireworks display at the end too. We even behaved ourselves and only left a Cox banner and our business cards behind for our friendly competition down the street!
Yesterday a group of us rode our motorcycles to campbarnabas.org near Purdy, MO. We were treated to a tour and lunch at this awesome facility designed to provide a camping experience for kids with special needs. The camp was featured on “Extreme Home Makeover” about 18 months ago and it was fun to get to tour 2 of the 3 buildings that the EHM crew built in a week. We’ll be back in early July when the Shriners have parade day at the camp for the kids.
Today is Mother’s Day and my daughters insured that it is a special day for me. Tammy treated me to brunch at one of my favorite spots, Agrario, where we shared the Spinach and Strawberry Salad followed with a Greek Omelette – both excellent choices. It was fun to enjoy brunch with just the two of us because we don’t often get time together like that – not that we don’t like each other but we are both quite busy and unfortunately, it takes a special event to make it happen. Tammy and Ralph gave me an awesome knitting bag that I had hinted I wanted and I was thrilled they chose it in hot pink too which is outside my normal navy and/or red!
We followed lunch with a great long walk through our old ‘hood – the area where we lived for 11 years when the girls were growing up, where I lived again for 4 years before getting married and where Tammy now has lived for 9+ years. It’s a great area with lots of sidewalks and old homes and brought back lots of memories of friends who used to live in the area and have moved. We even knew just where to stop for water so got to catch up with a good friend and see photos of her new grandson. I even got to see Tammy’s new pieces she has made along with other items in the works that she had in her studio. I continue to be amazed at the depth of her talent and creativity – definitely not something she inherited from me!
A perfect weekend – socializing, motorcycling and spending time with my daughter – hard to beat that combination!
Yes, brunch was wonderful. A big thanks to Agrario owner, Eric, for squeezing us in at the last minute. You didn’t get a knitting bag in red or navy because they didn’t have those as color choices! Glad you like the hot pink. It was a lot of fun walking through the neighborhood. While I think you were hoping I’d know all the home owners, you seemed to know the entire history of the place! I’m glad you enjoyed your Mother’s Day. You’re the best mom I ever had.
