Weekend With My Daughters   2 comments

It’s hard to beat a weekend with my daughters and our trip to K.C. did not disappoint.  Not only are they bright and funny (have I mentioned before how much I love them both?) but they are fun to watch when they’re together.  They are also great shoppers and critics of my choices whether I ask or not – and usually I do ask although there are times I over-rule their opinions.

Here are some things I learned on this trip:

1. According to Ralph, Tammy sounds like Chewbaca when she snores and I’m just plain weird!  The first night she woke us both with her bed-hopping but Saturday night I gave her ear plugs and told her to deal with her sister – it worked!

2.No trip to K.C. is complete with lunch at Jerusalem Cafe and a trip to Murray’s for ice cream – especially when you can get Murray’s Greatest Hits – vanilla ice cream with all their cookies crumbles mixed in.

3.Even when Ralph says she doesn’t want a mini-burger with her beer at 9:30 at night, she still eats it!

4.It’s hard to beat Nordstrom’s or Coach for customer service – at both places, when they hand you your purchases, the clerk steps out from behind the counter to personally hand it to you.  And at Coach they presented Ralph’s purse to her and asked her to inspect it before wrapping it in a cloth bag and then putting it in a shopping bag.

5.Fat people shouldn’t wear stretch pants – ’nuff said on that one!

6.Food court sushi isn’t bad – it’s certainly not Haruno but it’s passable for the price.

7.Tammy drives like I do and talks to other drivers the same way too - pretty scary, huh?  I blame it on my dad who taught me how to drive – how’s that for passing the buck!

8.Pullout couches in hotel rooms pretty much suck.  Sure made my bed at home feel good even when we need a new mattress.

9.There’s no place like home!  Burl and Mulligan are the best.

10.You can never buy too many pairs of shoes – between us I think we bought 9-10 pairs – 2 for Ralph, 3 for me and 4-5 for Tammy.  I even bought one pair without asking the price – they felt so darned good on my feet and all I knew was that they were similar in price to Birkenstocks (I was smart enough to know they weren’t 80% off at Dillard’s like the pair I was wearing that day).  Check out Naot Shoes – they are my new favorites.  I got Ashley in black patent leather.

11. I may not look 18 in my new madras patchwork plaid bermuda shorts but I sure feel like it!  Takes me back to my days at Drury in the 60s.  Same can be said for my new Sperry topsiders.  That’s me – always a preppy at heart!

Must go look for something that represents quality to me – I’m to take an object to an all-day Leadership conference on Thursday.  Any suggestions?

  1. First of all, Ralph says I sound like Chewbaca when I yawn, not snore – I blame it on my flare-up of TMJ. I sound like Nana when I snore. At least I did the first night. The second night I was, apparently, snore free.

Nordstrom and Coach were the best at customer service. The shoe department of Dillard’s was the worst. I’m writing them off on future trips. I ended up returning all my Dillard’s shoe purchases. I just wasn’t completely happy with them.

As for the object to take to your Leadership conference on Thursday I have two suggestions. One would be a leather product from Coach. They are consistently well made, stand by their product, and produce something made to be used and abused without losing it’s luster. Or you could take a terrific piece of handmade jewelry (maybe from a local jeweler). Something made of precious metal, created by hand, and designed in a classic, yet funky style created to be worn and enjoyed for years. That’s just my opinion, of course!

  2. You are I are on the same wave length about the quality item to a point – I had already thought about the Coach bag since I will be using my red one tomorrow. The other item I thought of was my wedding band which was Grammie’s – it’s platinum and is now at least 68 years old (although it wasn’t worn for 5 years in there!) but Keck may have bought it at an estate sale where he got her engagement ring. I thought about the quality of their life together and the values they imparted to me and stuff along those lines. Of course I could also refer to a hammered silver bracelet which will be on my wrist!!!

PS – Tried on the dress from Ann Taylor again and decided it’s too short-waisted – I wore it for about 10 minutes and kept tugging it down and decided it will drive my crazy so it’s going back. Think I’ll return the pants too – I have so many pair of jeans/capris and since it should be summer soon I’ll be wearing shorts all the time anyway! Oh well – love the shoes I bought. Wore the black d’orsay wedges to lunch today at Ocean Zen and got rave reviews on them from everyone.
