Life List – Revisited   2 comments

Visa Signature Card is currently running an ad in the Wall Street Journal entitled “Things to do while you’re alive” (as opposed to when you’re dead?).  Reading it enticed me to add a few items to my “to do” list -

1.  Research my familyhistory

2. Attend the Olympic Games (I prefer summer, Burl would opt for winter)

3.  Drink a margarita on Isla Margarita

4.  Shoot a hole in one (which means I’d have to actually use my golf clubs instead of letting them gather dust in the garage)

5.  Watch a space shuttle launch

6.  Take my grandkids on vacation (not all at once, please!)

But Visa also gave me an item to put on my “completed” list:  See the Big Buddha on Lantau Island – done – March 1998 with daughter Ralph – a memorable day as we took the ferry from Hong Kong to Lantau and then boarded a bus which took us to the monastery where the Buddha is located.  After getting reservations for lunch (these monks were computerized, well organized and served us the most fabulous meal for a pittance!) we strolled the grounds and later climbed all the steps to the top of the Buddha.  Our return trip was via Hovercraft back to Hong Kong.

I had forgotten about that particular jaunt until I read Visa’s list – but I remembered that Ralph found it in a Hong Kong travel guide and suggested we do it and I’m so glad we did.  Doubt that I’ll ever return but the memories will last forever.

Another item on Visa’s list is to Look down from the Cliffs of Moher – which we did in March 2005 when we went to Ireland.  While I remember being there, and looking down, I don’t count that experience as one of my life’s highlights – but obviously Visa thinks differently!

Do you have a list yet?  What’s on it?

  1. I’d also like to research my family history – maybe it’s something we can do together sometime. I’d like to know all the weirdos who came before me!

I did get to mark something off my list (which isn’t as exotic as yours) which was to learn welding. Guess that’s a start.

  2. I’m laughing at your #4. By “hole in one” do you mean on a golf course or at Putt-Putt?!
