Spring Forward

I love Daylight Savings Time – the whole concept so appeals to my left brain – but I always hate those first few days when my body adjusts to waking up when it’s still dark outside  Flip side is more daylight after work and that part I love – Mulligan will get a walk tonight after dinner.

Had lunch at Panera Bread today and it was wonderful to sit outside in the sun and feel that warmth.  I met my friend Allison who used to work for me and is now a traveling RN doing a stint in Mesa, AZ.  She’s back for a brief visit so I picked her brain about staffing ratios, patient acuity and length of stay, bedside charting and all kinds of other stuff you’d only care about if you’re a hospital Budget Babe – also got some tips on where to hike and raft for our next Arizona Adventure – Salt River Flats.  Allison is smart, talented, funny, and very attractive and at 27, she’s also bright enough to know that the world is her oyster and she’s taking advantage of her singleness and marketable skills by  combining work and travel while staying grounded with her family.  I think if I stayed at my job long enough I could end up reporting to her – she’ll eventually go back to get a master’s in something and be a CEO if that’s her desire!!!

We had a very productive but relaxed weekend – went to Ocean Zen on Friday night with friends who repaid us for loaning them a generator during the ICE STORM OF 2007 (as it shall be known until the next weather disaster!).  They had never eaten there and were eager to try it all so we got a couple of different appetizers to start (Thaipoon and South Beach sushi – yummy!), a bottle of good merlot, seabass for me and tuna for Burl and then we all had the decadent chocolate dessert with vanilla bean ice cream and 4 spoons.  The restaurant is hard to beat and definitely my favorite in Springfield hands-down.

On Saturday Burl attended a day-long meeting at church on how to be a mission trip leader so I savored a day to myself – naturally I went to the gym, then ran a few errands, took Mulligan for a long walk and later sat on the porch swing and read.  Hard to beat that agenda.  Yesterday after church we went to Agrario for brunch with friends – then spent the afternoon finishing cleanup of ice storm damage around the house.  Burl got a fire going and we fueled it with tree limbs and other debris – but it’s starting to look as normal as it’s going to look with some of our partially de-nuded trees.  Just like a bad haircut, they will grow back - just takes a bit longer than 6 weeks and I’m NOT a patient person.
