Wild Hogs   Leave a comment

We saw “Wild Hogs” today and it was absolutely one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in a long time – it was totally transparent – no hidden meaning, secret of life, complicated plot – just pure fun and laughter.  Definitely my kind of movie.   Near the end there is a cameo shot that transported me back about 35 years to another of my favorite motorcycle movies – and be sure to stay for the out-takes at the end as they roll the credits.  They are not to be missed.

One of the best parts was that a major portion of the show was shot in Madrid, NM – a wide spot in the road that I dearly love.  It’s about halfway between Albuquerque and Santa Fe on the old Turquoise Trail.  A friend and I discovered it many years ago and I’ve since returned with daughter Tammy and with Burl.  There is a true biker bar (one of only 3-4 eateries in town) that serves the most awesome cheeseburgers.  We were headed there last fall with friends when we were at the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque but rain deterred our travels that day.  If you’re ever in that area, take a few hours and linger in Madrid at the quirky shops and even quirkier inhabitants.  As one person replied when I asked about the population – they are 1/2 hippies, 1/2 aliens and 1/2 biker dudes.  He obviously didn’t do well in math.
