Leavin’ on a Jet Plane

Yesterday we flew to Phoenix – first time we’d flown since all the newly enhanced TSA regulations but I’m happy to report my knitting needles made it through security with no problems!  Got to Denver and our 1-hour layover stretched to 4 since the plane coming from Tampa was delayed.  So we killed a few hours walking around the airport, browsing the shops and then alternately reading and playing Sudoku.  Arrived in Phoenix and then had to “deal” with plenty of sunshine and 81 degree weather – shorts and sandals work for me!

We’re staying with son Mike and his wife Annie – first order of business was to hook up with Len, Stacey and Alex and then Stacey, Annie and I fixed some margaritas and headed out to sit by the pool and visit and read.  They are definitely my kind of women.  Grilled burgers last night and then hit Baskin-Robins for a treat.   I decided to be really good and chose the fat-free espresso and cream which ranked about a D+ – next time I’ll forget the calories and go for something yummy!

Mike had a mini-triathalon early today (congrats Mike – he took 2nd overall) and I started the day with a long walk – Annie declared it was kind of cool for running (about 62) but I managed to enjoy it – especially when I thought of the weather at home.  We had breakfast at Mimi’s which is one of our favorite places and then left Annie to meet Mike so they could to go to a play.  The rest of us ran a few errands and are now back at Mike’s waiting for them to return – the guys are watching the PGA and Stacey and I are going to sit by the pool and read.  I could get used to this life!

Tomorrow we drive to the Grand Canyon and Tuesday morning we do our 8+ mile hike to the bottom to Phantom Ranch.  Stay tuned and hopefully on Thursday night or Friday I’ll share our adventures – that assumes we emerge from the hike back out on Thursday.   Send good thoughts our way as we both fulfill a life-long dream/goal of hiking the Canyon.

  1. Margaritas, ice cream, grilled burgers, reading poolside – yup, sucks to be you.

  2. Do I hear retirement beckoning…?
