Happy Birthday Burl   3 comments

Yesterday was hubby’s birthday so of course we had to celebrate!  On Sunday night his golfing buddies and their wives came over for dinner followed by a rousing game of Mexican Train dominoes.  I didn’t bother to tell him they were coming so when the first couple showed up he was still in his “workin’s” having spent the afternoon alternately working on the hot tub, burning ice storm debris and watching Phil Mickelson win the PGA – but he cleaned up quickly and I had a great excuse for not having everything done when company arrived!

Last evening was family birthday dinner – he chose lasagna and strawberry pretzel salad followed with desserts left from Sunday night’s bash – a yummy chocolate cake decorated with golf motif and an apple crumb cake.  I ate without regard to Weight Watcher points – gotta take a break from the regimen every once in a while!

He loved all his gifts – Merrell hiking boots for our trip to the Grand Canyon next week, a lighted world globe on a stand, funky screwdriver that holds lots of bits and tips, magnetic clip-on LED lights for tools, and a hiking LED headlamp – quite a score in the loot department.  Even Mulligan remembered his big day with a book and DVD on the Grand Canyon – what a dog!

Nothing like a birthday celebration in the winter to brighten the long, dreary days – we now have 4 February birthdays with Burl’s brother Ed on the 2nd, granddaughter Lydia on the 9th and nephew John on the 10th.  Still not as many as June – the month with the most natal days.

Tonight I’m starting to pack for our trip – it feels good to haul out capri pants and lightweight tops knowing that in 4 days I’ll be in Phoenix.  I can even wear my Birks on the plane and take off my socks when we land – oops – that reminds me, it’s time for a pedicure.  As soon as I print off the list of allowable items for the plane I’ll do my toenails.  Hope knitting needles are still on the approved list!

  1. Glad Burl had a nice birthday. It was nice to see everyone last night and dinner was yummy. You sure make a mean lasagna.

Yes, please make sure your toes look nice if you’re wearing sandals. May I suggest a lovely red? It’s the hot color right now and a classic that never really goes out of style. Mine are currently burgundy.

  2. How about “I’m Not Really a Waitress?” Will that pass fashion inspection?

  3. Happy Brother Brown!!!

Hope you received your birthday card on time – along with the bet I lost on the Bears – wait till next year.

I wish I was going with you to warmer weather. I just dug out from our last snow storm this morning – not much fun as when we were younger. I sometimes feel we are hibernating in the winter just waiting until the first warm weather so we can get outside.

    Little brother
